Our Story

Gen Z VCs is a collective of 27,000+ young VCs, angel investors, founders, startup enthusiasts, and aspiring VCs. We aim to:

• Make VC & entrepreneurship more transparent and welcoming for the next generation of investors through our initiatives

• Serve as the central place where young innovators in Tech & VC can collaborate, build real friendships, and learn/grow together

• Connect Gen Z founders with like-minded young investors

• Elevate the Gen Z perspective and voices of our community in the VC ecosystem

Gen Z VCs: Tweet —> Article —> Slack Community —> Movement

The Gen Z VCs community was started by Meagan Loyst in November 2020, initially as a Slack group to connect her peers / new friends in VC (aka Gen Z VCs). When 23-year-old Meagan joined the VC world in September 2020, she wanted to find ways to connect with other young investors who were also just starting out. That led to a tweet, 71 conversations with her peers in VC, and eventually her first article on Medium titled “Gen Z VCs Weigh In: Top 4 Trends We’re Watching and Our Favorite Companies” that’s been read by over 8k people and featured in TechCrunch and Microsoft For Startups.

In her conversations with other Gen Z VCs, the most common question she received was “who else are you meeting as a part of your article? I’d like to meet them too!” — so she decided to connect her new VC friends in a Slack group, Gen Z VCs. In 4 days, the Slack community grew from 30 people to 1,000. And now, to 27,000+.

Berber Jin at Business Insider wrote about the viral rise of our Slack channel here, and the growing movement that’s evolved from our efforts and community here — both pictured to the right.

Before Meagan’s Gen Z VCs article in October, the words or terminology “Gen Z VC” didn’t exist — partially because there weren’t many of us in the VC world, and also because no one was talking about it. Now you can find “Gen Z VC” in Twitter bios of young investors all over the world that have joined our community and are proud to be a part of this growing movement. Our community is inclusive and open to everyone, and we’d love for you to join us.
